Keely Hodgson and Choir

Keely’s arrangements draw on her experience as a composer and singer, her passion for poetry and her belief that singing should be enjoyed by everyone, regardless of ability or experience of singing.  She has arranged songs from the folk, blues, and jazz traditions, as well as popular songs, mostly for a cappella groups comprising 3 or 4 parts. She especially enjoys the challenge of suggesting a rich harmony with a limited number of parts. To date, all her arrangements have been written for the singers in her community choirs who learn each song by ear. Her part-writing seeks to draw out the best from her singers’ ranges, whilst aiming to give every part something to get their teeth into. An arrangement isn’t complete until she has sung all the parts through, checking that everything feels comfortable in the voice, and that the music supports and enhances the colour and rhythm of the lyrics.

Keely’s collection includes three original compositions for voices: Winter Psalm SSA; All Shall Be Well SAA & Stardust SSAA with piano accompaniment.
