This arrangement is designed for SATB choirs who are in need of a stirring anthem of encouragement – choral music techniques like soaring descants and occasional counterpoint have been utilised to nudge this musical theatre and football terrace classic ever so slightly in the direction of Elgar and Parry. Lyrics trivia: in the original version of Carousel, the song begins “When you walk through a storm, hold your chin up high”. Once someone had had the bright idea of singing “hold your head up high”, that attractive alliteration was here to stay!
