You Can Get It If You Really Want – Sheet Music

An uplifting rocksteady classic from Jimmy Cliff and a nice easy one for singers to get under their belt. Lots of repetition, so it’s a great choice for the beginning of a term to build energy and confidence.

Watch out for a slightly unusual scale in the middle section (“if___ you___ want___, you can get it”). You may wish to work that into a warm-up activity to get less confident singers feeling more secure with both the syncopation and the notes.

This song definitely benefits from a bit of added rhythm – a simple tambourine would do it! The accompaniment could be keyboard or guitar, or alternatively you could download the simple backing track provided.

This is a great arrangement- very effective, all the parts sound interesting melodically (and the tune is shared by all the sections), it has brought fun and energy to our rehearsals. We have been singing it acapella and it works really well-I might try adding a tambourine as suggested but I’m very happy with the piece as it is. Super!
