Walking On Sunshine – Learning Tracks

Katrina and the Waves’ little chunk of pop joy is guaranteed to put a smile on every face. This close-harmony three-parter has Alto 1 singing the tune in the verse, with Soprano taking over in the chorus. Alto 2 is woven in above and below Alto 1. Keep the harmony parts light to let the tune shine through.

Those characteristic on-beat, off-beat patterns (ba ba ba, ba ba-ba-da) need a bit of practice to keep them together and resist speeding up, but it’s worth the effort. Pay attention to the patterns of rests, too, as these reinforce the rhythm (and are designed to give you enough breath to sing unbroken phrases in the verse!).
