The Wexford Carol – Learning TracksView Craig McLeish's Full Store
Considered to be one of the oldest carol tunes used today, but due to the oral tradition of Irish music no one knows how old it actually is, estimates being somewhere in the 15th Century. When we performed this first we were accompanied by Piano and a hurdy gurdy, droning on D and A. This works throughout, with the piano left hand providing alternative bass notes in verses 3 and 4. Without the gurdy available – and let’s face it they’re not – the Tenors and Basses can hum those notes effectively for verses 1 and 2, if they have the stamina!
