The Water Of Tyne – Learning Tracks

View Keely Hodgson's Full Store

I arranged this folksong from the North-East of England for my upper voice choir.  The lilting melody is shared between the sopranos and first altos while the second altos alternate between long-breathed wordless lines and lyrics. The first verse is repeated at the end to emphasise the song’s lament. There is plenty of opportunity for good phrasing, attention to breathing and dynamic expression.
