The Salley Gardens – Learning Tracks

View Anna Tabbush's Full Store

The words of the Salley Gardens are attributed to Irish poet William Butler Yeates, but they were more of an arrangement of lyrics of another song he’d heard. They were later set to the beautiful traditional Irish melody we know today. I used to sing this in a choir when I was a child and have arranged and rearranged it a few times since.

As a conductor I usually go a bit mad with dynamics and tempo changes in the 2nd verse for dramatic effect. I’m going to leave you to have a bit of fun with your own interpretations. Enjoy!
