Taken from Billy Joel’s eleventh album ‘Storm Front’ , this song skillfully tells the true story of impoverished fishermen off the US east who have fallen on hard times as industrial-scale fishing affects their businesses. Downeaster refers to the style of boat and Joel chose the name ‘Alexa’ after his daughter.
The song’s melody is very singable and this arrangement takes that tune and weaves it into a blustery 3-part shanty-esque texture. If you need a shanty and some 80s music in your programmes, this will fit perfectly!
Originally arranged for Chaps Choir, this accessible a cappella arrangement is an energising sing.
