Scat ‘n’ Swing – Resource Pack (Unlimited Licence)
View Fiona Lander's Full StoreThis warm-up is guaranteed to get your choir really grooving – once you’ve chosen the best key for them!! I love working in flat keys, especially for jazz, so if the original score in Eb minor (which is the one previewed above) is just too low for your choir, I’ve included a score in E minor and one for mixed voices in D minor. N.B. The recording is only available in the original key at the moment.
Scatting is so much fun and the possibilities are endless! It starts with the lowest part, followed by the highest then the middle parts coming in together. The repetitive nature of each part should give singers a chance to familiarise themselves with the jazz phrasing whilst developing a tone suitable for singing this kind of music.
There are lots of slides and scoops which will really enhance the performance once all the basics are in place. Feel free to add more body percussion if that helps!
ADD ON – Give them solos!!!! You might want to use this piece as the basis for some improvisation with your group, perhaps by repeating Bar 33-48 minus Part 1, offering singers a chance to strut their stuff over the top of hopefully a really solid backing!
This resource pack includes the three scores mentioned above, audio learning tracks for each part and the full ensemble audio recording. This resource pack is licenced on an unlimited basis so is geared towards larger choirs. For choirs less than 100 members, the standard ‘per copy’ licence is also available from the button below.
