Scarborough Fair – Learning Tracks
View Keely Hodgson's Full StoreI sang this English folk song first at Primary School. It wasn’t until much later that I heard it sung by Ewan McColl. I grew up immersed in the version by Simon & Garfunkel, but their arrangement appealed to me more as a piece for guitar!
I have selected just four verses from the folk song – two in the voice of the man and two in the voice of the woman. My remembered melody has “smoothed” out some of the more idiomatic folk writing and is shared between each of the three parts. Each part, even when harmonising with the melody is mellifluous and equally important.
