Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer – Learning Tracks
View Timothy Allen's Full StoreTim’s introduction to this classic Christmas song is designed to wrongfoot the audience, as it sounds like it’s going to be something terribly dramatic and serious, before it switches to the lighthearted fun of Rudolph! The more this contrast can be brought out in vocal tone, body language etc, the more effective the piece is. It has never failed to get a laugh when Tim’s choir perform it!
Once the main tune arrives, the arrangement is very straightforward. The sopranos get a fun descant on the second time through, and the basses bring the whole thing to a riotous conclusion. The final shouted “Rudolph” is sometimes accompanied by the whole choir miming reindeer antlers!
Piano accompaniment is provided, and works well – there is also a custom-crafted backing track available, which brings out the dramatic contrast between the dark orchestral colours of the introduction and the swing-band feel of the rest of the song.
