Anna Tabbush has created two brilliant sets of rounds which we’re delighted to publish on ChoirCommmunity.  This set of rounds is based on the theme of singing.  The other set published today is based on the theme of the Night Sky and can be found on this link.

This resource pack contains the score and audio learning tracks for all four rounds.  The details for each round are:

Raise Your Voice

Raise your voice and sing together
Music lives come whatever
Though the storms are sent to make us bend and break
The songs we sing they shall not shake

Singing has always been an important part of protest; the act of singing together unites, synchronises and galvanises people. I wrote this round when I was angry with the Tory government for their austerity cuts affecting music provision in schools and the community.

Love, Laugh, Dance, Sing

What other thing can more happiness bring
Than to love and laugh and dance and sing
With good friends all around you cannot help but to
Love, Laugh, Dance, Sing

This song was partly inspired by those annoying inspirational memes you see everywhere, but mainly the joy that singing together brings. The tune is very jolly and in a waltz time you can’t help but move to.

We Gather Now Beneath the Bough

We gather now beneath the bough
We weave and spin these lines with our kin
Till midnight comes

There’s a beautiful ancient woodland near where I live in West Sussex called Kingley Vale which has some of the oldest Yew Trees in the country. Some are thought to be around two thousand years old and would have been meeting places in Iron Age times. I wrote this round with these meetings in mind, imagining groups of women talking, telling stories, singing and weaving together.

There Stands An Empty Room

There stands an empty room
Which once was filled with song
’Tis there we’ll meet
And sing before too long

The 2020 pandemic has been fertile ground for song writers. We’ve had time on our hands and lots of emotions to express through our music! I wrote this song for all singers who haven’t been able to sing with their groups. The loss of my choirs and singing events has left such a hole in my life, but the day will come when we can sing together again and the healing power of harmony singing will come into its own!
