Down in the River – Learning Tracks (Craig McLeish)

View Craig McLeish's Full Store

This is a little bit inspired by the Alison Krauss version in O Brother Where Art Thou but is not a transcription. I have had to cut down a lot of the improvisations and subtle differences between the verses in pursuit of a simple one size fits all verse. The only thing that changes is the person in the family who you are singing to. We like to build up the parts one by one as demonstrated on the demo, so that each verse gets fuller until you get to the sinner verse – be careful to sing “sinner” in verse 5 and not “sister”  – one person with a sibilant ‘s’ can ruin a whole choirs careful avoidance!
