Our House – Backing Track

View Tom Chapman's Full Store

This is not necessarily the first tune you think of when you see the title Our House, however I might argue that this is a far superior work. The song was written by Graham Nash and recorded by Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young. Nash wrote it in an hour after having breakfast out in LA with his then partner Joni Mitchell, she bought an antique vase on the way home and the rest of the song speaks for itself. It’s whimsical and charming and should be sung in this way.

The La la la section is a little challenging and will need a few goes before it’s secure. The piano insists upon maintaining simple harmony whilst the vocal lines interweave providing dissonance and resolution. It’s totally worth it when the choir have got it!
