Oh Shenandoah – Sheet Music
View Craig McLeish's Full StoreThis famous american old classic folk song has had many outings. I wrote this one for the Voices Now festival in 2015, and pushed the boat out a bit with the harmony, hence the intermediate status and existence of a second Sop part with meandering lines. The basses get a good showing here with the tune in the verses.
A gentle approach here and lots of breath to sustain the long lines. Some staggered breathing is almost certainly required (taking it in turns to take silent breaths giving the illusion of no breaths at all!)

A beautiful arrangement of a traditional song which was quite challenging for my community choir to master, partly due to the changing time signatures, but well worth the effort! A firm favourite which will stay in the repertoire.
