Mendelssohn Nunc Dimittis – Sheet Music

I was asked last year to fit the words of the Song of Simeon (as sung every evening up and down the land during evensong) to the tune from the slow movement of Mendelssohn’s 4th Symphony the Italian.  An old family friend had always dreamed it would work but needed someone to arrange it.

With a few small changes in the accepted prayer book words I came up with this and you can be the judge whether it works or not.

This requires organ accompaniment and probably a church with a nice acoustic. Now I just need to find another tune without words that suits the Magnificat and we have a set we can use in a service – any ideas please get in touch on our contact page!

I suppose this would work well at a memorial service because it is about saying goodbye to someone after their work here is done.
