Now Is The Month Of Maying – Learning TracksView Craig McLeish's Full Store
If you were ever to join a madrigal group this is probably one of the first madrigals you would sing, and it is a classic. It has all the elements, some quick witted words, gentle baudy humour, 5 well written parts with memorable melodies, and some fa la las at the end of each line. It is reputed that when they write “fa la la” or “hey nonny no” it’s instead of something unrepeatable, but that’s only a rumour.
The original version of course doesn’t have dynamics but you can add a lot to a performance if you play around with these. We haven’t put any on the score but if you listen to the full learning track you might pick up a few ideas. The important thing with this is do what works best for you and your singers. Again this might work better a good deal faster than our vocal demo but it could be a bit of a jumble if done too quick. A lightness of touch and an awareness of the other parts around you are always a good way to go.
