Ipharadisi – Learning TracksView Craig McLeish's Full Store
Ipharadisi is a song I learnt in South Africa when I visited for 3 weeks back in 1989.
It tells of a place where people live on a city dump which they named Ipharadisi or Paradise because it was where the ‘dead’ are living. I encountered people singing everywhere – in the airport welcoming home a loved one, at church, at home. Lives are infused and invested with song.
It is a very inspiring and challenging place and I would love to visit again. These simpler 4 part repetitive songs always work well with a build-up of parts, normally the tune first (Alto in this case). Audiences can hear the new parts as they come in and it is easier to pick one out and get on board.
