I’m Gonna Lift My Brother Up – Learning Tracks
View Craig McLeish's Full StoreAnother song of American origin which has been passed from choir to choir, but definitely with a spiritual flavour. It has been credited by some sources to Faya Rose Touré, who was a lawyer, educator and song writer and the first African American woman judge in Alabama.
This one works well as a gathering song. The tune is again in the Alto part with the others supporting mainly in parallel.
Usually when a song only has the word brother in the original we add a sister verse as well of course (also see Lean On Me).
Changing only the one word each verse (be creative!) makes it easy to remember and dramatic changes in dynamic can also be very effective, although we have only given you a two verse demo, at least 4 or 5 make for a good item length.
