I Feel For You (SAB) – Learning Tracks

This arrangement of Prince’s classic song – of which Chaka Khan’s version is the most well known – is ideal for ensembles and groups working with groove based a cappella music. The musical direction at the top – ‘metronomic & with sass’ – is all that really needs to be said!

In the middle there is a mash-up with the chorus of Eddie Floyd’s ‘Knock On Wood’, which adds a surprise element as well as driving the arrangement momentarily in slightly different direction. With a modulation and part splits, the arrangement has some challenge to it.

The key to success will be prioritising the groove and letting the consonants and vowels become servants to the needs of the song’s rhythmic drive and syncopation, as is often the style of rhythmic a cappella singing.
