Halsway Carol – Learning Tracks

This Secular Winter Carol is a wonderful tune and a breath of fresh air in the current climate of naff pop songs with sleigh bells! The composer is internationally renowned Hurdy Gurdy maestro Nigel Eaton, so of course the tune is designed to work over a drone of a fifth (D and A). I have incorporated this into the parts during the verses. The piano introduction/link is simply the chorus tune also played over a drone but you can design the arrangement anyway you like. Guitars and other folk instruments would work well too.

The piece was quickly learnt by the choir, witch was what I was looking for. Although the choir offered some resistance in the beginning, namely because of the hurdy gurdy sonority (witch I personally love) but mainly because they didn't know the song. They eventually liked it, and some are very keen now.
