Dundee Whalers – Resource Pack
View Gitika Partington's Full Store
This shanty evokes a time in history (although not that far back) when whalers traveled thousands of miles around Iceland and Greenland to find their catch. Although uptempo, the words describe a hard life trekking through the freezing waters so it was important to keep spirits up! There are lots of opportunities in the lyrics to add dramatic moments and play with tempo. Stretch out ‘the fastest ship to make that trip’ for example. British whalers were apparently called ‘Plum Pudding Whalers’ by their American counterparts as they always came home for Christmas, while American whalers might be away from home for three years at a time!
This resource pack contains the full score, lyrics and learning tracks for all voice parts.
