Copacabana (At The Copa) – Learning Tracks

Kitsch 70s disco with Latin rhythms and wonderful chord progressions. The sopranos have the melody and the other parts need to sing sensitively so that the words come across. There is lots of potential for theatrical antics in the performance!

The song tells the love story of Lola and Tony and the wicked Rico who “goes a bit too far” and gets in a fight with Tony with disastrous consequences (who shot who??). I couldn’t bear the end of the story for Lola; in the dress she used to wear with faded feathers in her hair drinking herself half blind, so I have written an alternative last verse which gives Lola a happier ending!
