Build Me Up Buttercup – Learning Tracks

This is a song dating from my early childhood and was brought to my attention once more, when it was used for the 1998 movie, “There’s Something about Mary”.  The original song was written by Mike D’Abo and Tony Macaulay and released by the British soul band, The Foundations, in 1968. It became a No. 2 Hit in the U.K.

The tune, sung by the distinctive voice of the band’s lead singer, Colin Young, is given to the Basses in the chorus and the Tenors in the verse.

I love the energy of this song and have tried to capture this with snappy riffs that echo the words in the “backing vocals” and the “bah dahs”!
