Belfast Child – Backing Track
View Timothy Allen's Full StoreThis powerful and haunting song comes from the Simple Minds album “Street fighting years”. The opening melody is based on “She moves through the fair”, an Irish folk song. Originally written as a response to the Enniskillen bombing in Northern Ireland, it went on to be one of the songs that defined this unusually grand phase of Simple Minds’ career.
Capitalising on the big build-up of the original, this version starts very simply, and reaches a climax that is as intense as it is loud. The return of the Irish folk melody at the end rounds everything off poignantly.
This arrangement is designed to be performed with its backing track, which includes the Irish folk instruments, searing guitars, and driving rhythms of the original. It can be bought here as a single-licence copy for use with your choir.
