As Torrents In Summer – Sheet Music
View Craig McLeish's Full StoreTaken from the lesser known cantata King Olaf, this has survived as a little gem of Victoriana. It suits any choir and goes well with My Love Dwelt and The Shower as a concert group. It is often sung too fast, as the harmonies need space and the atmosphere is worth lingering on, so take your time and enjoy what is undeniably a very English sound.
You need to decide at bar 10 whether you take off the whole choir at the end of “cloudless” on the quaver, so that it’s aligned with the tenors. If you don’t it needs to be very crisp or may sound messy. You will also need to have enough basses to split them on the final chord – that low 5th adds a wonderful richness to the end.
