Jake Alexander Conducting a Choir

We’re delighted to welcome Jake Alexander to the growing team of ChoirCommunity arrangers this week.  Jake is a multi-talented musician and instrumentalist, who spends his time in a wide range of musical activities, as well as writing and arranging choral music.

To mark the launch of his initial group of songs, Craig chatted this week with Jake over Zoom, covering all the subjects you’ll be familiar with by now, plus the subject of music technology, the craft of writing good rounds and the expectation of taking risks at college (again, musical ones).

As an added bonus, I also wanted to bring your attention to a video which Jake has made of one of his rounds which I think illustrates what a great talent he is.   The words are a fragment from some spoken by Martin Luther King Jr.   Unfortunately, this round is not available on ChoirCommunity, but is on Jake’s own website.  We have published a resource pack of four new rounds from Jake on the theme of hope though which can be downloaded here.

Jake is utterly gifted. I stumbled across his Crib Notes choir during lockdown last year, and it was wonderful. I was hoping he would join Choir Community as an arranger, as his work is so interesting and accessible to community choirs.
